To collar or not to collar?

Post by SteveG » Thu Dec 27, 2018 2:20 am

Freya, our sheltie puppy is now about 17 weeks old. When we got her at 12 weeks old I just could not find a collar small enough for her, apart from the indignity of a cat collar.

Our local city council ( Canberra ) no longer issue identity discs like they used to since all dogs and cats must be microchipped by law. So there is no "tag" to attach to the collar in any case.

But since she will be inside except when being walked or going to the toilet, is there any need to collar her at all? I am retired so she will always have my company. When I walk her I use a slip lead and leash which doesn't need a collar. And she walks so well on it, she's naturally in heel most of the time.

Do I need to bother with a collar at all? Do you collar your shelties?
