Re: Terrified to take walks!!

I reckon take him in the car to a quiet park so he can experience part of the big wide world but not have to face the cars yet. That alone should help to develop his confidence. Build on that with visits to other places - different parks, any rivers/lakes/beaches you have nearby, friends houses. Pup...

Re: Post a Photo of Shelties Meeting New Friends!

A different beach for Moose this morning - there were SO MANY dogs out and about (so cool). We met a little collie who was the runt of her litter and still a tiny thing. Her owners had a sheltie previously who died last year at age 14 - they said Moose opened up their sheltie hearts again :). The co...

Re: Sheltie Traits

Does anyone else have a mad puppy that goes nuts at the tv? Moose is so funny but I can hardly watch animal planet anymore! Sports channels aren't much better. He runs from one room to another (with tv's in them) to find what has grabbed his attention. They're not often on the same channel but the o...

Re: Color changes in a tri colored puppy

My parents sable has changed as she got older. She was much lighter when they got her at 2 years, then over the next couple of years she got much darker, so I guess she is technically mahogany sable.

No doubting Moose is a tri though - his markings are solid and his black is stunning!

Re: Post a Photo of Shelties Meeting New Friends!

Moose and Sara were sociable at the beach a few months ago (before Moose had all his fur, hence the unfluffy tail). Another with Tyler the lab/border collie X, and from back at puppy pre-school where his best pals were the mastiffs!

Re: Training adult dog to use stairs!

I saw a programme once, can't remember if it was Cesar Milan or not (probably) where they trained a dog in a similar situation very quickly and effectively. The first thing was to 'fill in the blanks' - I think they used paper or something, so he couldn't see through. From then on it was very easy, ...

Re: Barking at cars..help :(

Moose started doing it a while ago too. I use the Cesar Milan technique - correction, stop if he doesn't look away/stop barking, start over. He is usually better on the way back when he's worn out so I used that opportunity to reward the good behaviour. I find correcting with the leash and stopping ...
